Ardgowan Hospice
The Clyde Coast & Garnock Valley Crematorium is very pleased to announce that it has made a £5000 donation towards Ardgowan Hospice to help support the crucial end of life care that they provide for families from across the local area.
The funds were raised through the new crematorium’s membership of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s national Recycling of Metals Scheme, and the money was officially presented to Elaine McNeill and Ann-Marie Fry of Ardgowan Hospice on Tuesday, 23rd October 2018.
The Institute’s Recycling of Metals Scheme is a national initiative and works by sensitively recovering metals and orthopedic implants following cremation with the consent of bereaved families.
Philip Ewing, Manager of the Clyde Coast & Garnock Valley Crematorium, said:
“As professionals assisting the bereaved, we recognise the financial challenges that organisations supporting families at their most difficult and vulnerable time face.
“The funds raised through this recycling scheme donation will directly benefit the hospice, and the families it supports, when they are facing a difficult time through bereavement.
“Our heart-felt thanks go to each and every family who consented to take part in the national scheme, without whom life-changing donations such as the one we are making today would not be possible.”
Linda McEnhill, Chief Executive at Ardgowan Hospice, said:
“Ardgowan Hospice provides specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Each year the hospice team supports around 1,000 patients and family members in Inverclyde with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. Patients are cared for in the Access at Ardgowan Day Hospice, a number of outpatient clinics, the 8-bedded inpatient unit or in their own homes by a specialist professional team.
“Ardgowan Hospice is an independent charity and is grateful for all donations to help it to continue to provide its care without charge to those who receive it. We are truly grateful to Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium for choosing to support us and this fantastic donation could pay for more than eight days specialist care in our Inpatient Unit.”

“Since its inception in 2006, the Institute’s national recycling of metals initiative has raised over £5.2million, and it gives great comfort for those who have contributed to the scheme to know that the money raised is used to support charities like Ardgowan Hospice, in the delivery of incredibly important end of life care.
“We are Scotland’s newest crematorium and we are among the UK and Europe’s most environmentally advanced, and like Ardgowan Hospice, we are totally committed to providing the very highest levels of care and compassion for families when they need support most, and we are incredibly proud to be in a position to make this donation.”
